Benefits of Pairing Botox Injections with PRP Therapy

Do wrinkles stare back at you when you look in the mirror? If so, there’s a perfect combination of treatments that can help turn those wrinkles into smooth skin. The dynamic duo is Botox® and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy.

In this blog, the health experts at Holistic OB/GYN & Midwifery explain what Botox is, what PRP therapy is, and how they can work together to help you get back the smooth skin you desire.

Botox basics

Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that prompt muscle movements. By interrupting these signals, Botox temporarily freezes or paralyzes the affected muscles.

Without muscle movement, the skin covering these muscles is able to smooth out. Botox works well on lines and wrinkles in the following areas:

To maintain the best results, you need to get a Botox treatment every 3-4 months.

PRP therapy basics

Platelets are a component in your blood, and they contain growth factors that help your body repair and strengthen damaged tissue. Platelet-rich plasma therapy works by harvesting some of these platelets and injecting them into areas that need regeneration and healing.

To begin treatment, some of your blood is drawn. Then the sample is placed in a centrifuge, where the platelets are separated from the rest of your blood's components. Then the platelets are injected into the treatment area.

When injected into the treatment area, the PRP works to boost the production of collagen. The extra collagen then helps plump up and enhance your skin from within to create a more youthful appearance. In addition to plumping up and enhancing your skin, PRP injections can improve skin texture and tone and help reduce fine lines and scarring.

A safe combination

Botox and PRP injections can be safely combined in one treatment session. Both have been extensively tested and have demonstrated proven results for years. You may experience minimal side effects, such as some soreness and redness around the injection sites, but any side effects should fade after 24-48 hours.

Botox and PRP injections are able to work in harmony to help you achieve the maximum benefits. The Botox will go to work immediately to help smooth out your skin. The PRP therapy will take about 90 days for you to see full results, but it will add volume to your skin and help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
